All of your life you have wanted a jeep and perhaps even consider used jeeps, but you never had the money to buy one. Now is your lucky day, you have the money in hand and you are ready to make a purchase. Now you have to find the best place to buy used jeeps so that you can find the perfect model for you. There are actually several good places to start your search for used jeeps, starting with a local search with the local paper.
Buying Used Jeeps Through the Paper
For most people, the most obvious choice is to look through the newspaper for the ads that list car, trucks and other vehicles for sale. Before you even respond to a single ad for any used jeeps or other motor vehicles, make sure that you know the book value for one that is in good condition. Never buy sight unseen and never agree to show up for a test drive with cash in hand. Ask if you may take the vehicle to a mechanic for inspection. If the seller balks at the idea, it might be a good idea to walk away from this deal quickly.
Buying Used Jeeps Online
In many areas, newspapers are not being published any longer- they are all online. In addition, you can find postings for used jeeps in other online sources as well, sources which specialize in classified ads of various kinds. The same rules and guidelines apply here as they do for buying used jeeps through the paper. Some classified sites are set up to auto-respond with spam messages directed you to other commercial sites so use caution when choosing which to answer. It is also important to report these spammers to the site so that they can be pulled.
Buying Used Jeeps from a Dealer
You can also buy used jeeps from auto dealers who may have taken them in for trade on other vehicles. Using the book value for the vehicle that you are interested in, haggle for your best price and consider paying slightly more if you can get a good warranty on the vehicle and less if you cannot. Some dealers may offer certain vehicles for reduced prices at certain times of the year. Used jeeps, especially certain types, may go for a slightly higher price during the winter months when they can be advertised as helpful in the snow. Some used jeeps, especially those that have button on windows may not sell well however because they are not as warm as others.
The Used Jeeps Fallacy
The myth that you can buy decommissioned jeeps for a dollar is an enduring one. While you can buy a number of items from auction from the military, you cannot buy used jeeps because they would not be considered road legal. (There are exceptions to this rule.) Even if they are offered at auction, the chance of the used jeeps being sold for a dollar is very slim.
